Aftercare

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is essential to ensure the healing process goes smoothly and your tattoo looks vibrant and stays beautiful for years to come. Follow these instructions to take care of your tattoo:

  • Your tattoo artist will have covered your fresh tattoo with a protective bandage or wrap. Leave it on for the time recommended by your artist, usually a few days, to allow the tattoo to heal and prevent any outside bacteria from entering.
  • Gently remove the bandage: Once the recommended time has passed, wash your hands thoroughly with mild antibacterial soap and warm water. Carefully remove the bandage, peeling it off slowly to avoid damaging the tattooed area.
  • Cleanse the tattoo: Use a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap to gently wash your tattooed area. Gently lather the soap in your hands and then apply it to the tattoo, using your fingertips in a circular motion. Rinse with lukewarm water, ensuring all soap residue is removed.
  • Pat dry and air out: Gently pat the tattooed area dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid rubbing, as it can cause irritation. Once dry, leave the tattoo uncovered for a while to allow it to breathe and facilitate the healing process.
  • Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare product: After the tattoo has air-dried for some time, apply a thin layer of tattoo-specific aftercare product recommended by your tattoo artist or a dermatologist. Use clean hands to gently massage the product into the tattooed skin. Repeat this process 2-3 times a day, or as instructed by your artist.
  • Avoid picking or scratching: It is essential to resist the temptation to pick, scratch, or peel any scabs that form on your tattoo. Let them heal naturally and fall off on their own. Picking at scabs can lead to scarring or color loss.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and excessive moisture: Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight, as it can fade the colors and damage the healing skin. Additionally, avoid soaking the tattoo in pools, hot tubs, or bathtubs, as prolonged exposure to water can soften the scabs and increase the risk of infection.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing: Opt for loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fabric to prevent unnecessary friction and irritation on your healing tattoo. Avoid tight or synthetic materials that can rub against the tattooed area.
  • Avoid strenuous activities: During the initial healing period, refrain from engaging in activities that cause excessive sweating, such as intense workouts or saunas. Sweat and friction can irritate the tattoo and slow down the healing process.
  • Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy lifestyle: Proper hydration and overall good health contribute to the healing process. Drink plenty of water, follow a balanced diet, and avoid excessive alcohol consumption or smoking, as these can hinder the healing process and affect the appearance of your tattoo.
  • Follow up with your tattoo artist: If you have any concerns or questions during the healing process, reach out to your tattoo artist. They are experienced professionals and can provide guidance based on their expertise.

Remember, every tattoo is individual and unique, so follow your tattoo artist’s specific aftercare instructions, as they may have slight variations. The healing process typically takes a few weeks, but the final result will be worth the effort. Enjoy your new tattoo and take pride in caring for it properly!
